RE: Best Quad for the Dunes?

Here is a thought that no one else brought up .. although the 250R was an absolutely awesome machine it's now 20 or so years old. Even a well kept one will have some mechanical issues from time to time. Since it sounds like you're going on an extended vacation I'd opt for a new four stroke so that you won't lose any precious play time wrenching on your toy. Like someone said, it's hard to go wrong with any of them these days. I have a Suzuki LTZ 400 and love it. Water cooled, predictable, adequate power for me, reverse, and won't break the bank. Ride one of the newer 4 strokes before you buy a 2 stroke. You'll be surprised.

RE: first hauler

Try and make sure it's the right one for you. Does it have all the features you want/need? Do you like the bathroom? The overall floor plan? Will it hold your toys and the toys you think you may get later? Is the price right for the year, model, and condition? JMO but I would never go in thinking "this isn't really what I want but I'll "upgrade" later) I bought a gently used '06 last Nov. No regrets and it seems more like home everytime I use it.

RE: Weekend Warrior now only a 1 year warranty

I said it earlier in this thread....sounds like they have money problems and that ain't good. I read also they lost several top people for unknown reasons??????:h I wouldn't even consider a WW until all this blows over. But again, I never did consider getting a WW. Always thought the name and prices were nothing but hype, created by them. Quick, they need more buckets.....:B My guess is they may be having money problems do to poor build quality. A previous poster said his dealer quit doing warranty work because WW owed them $100K in unpaid warranty work. They close facilities and lose top execs. Now they go from a 2 to a 1 year warranty. Sounds to me like their build quality is killing them.

RE: Replacment axle for utility trailer

I don't know what's available on the east coast, but here we have Century Wheel & Rim and a company called Redneck Trailer. You can order anything you want. Both are chains but I don't know where all the stores are. Look in your yellow pages and you'll probably find something. It may cost less for a new one than to have a shop straighten your old one.

RE: Solution to Sierra Club

You know I do believe that we do need land set aside as preserves and we have that already. Now I'm a pretty old guy and what amazes me is that enviros continually come up with endangered species that I've never heard of OR seen in my life. Honestly I have to say that if I've lived this long without ever having seen nor heard of some obscure bug or plant I'm having a hard time with someone closing thousands of acres because of it. I truly believe that with some of the vocal enviro wackos it's not about the plant or bug at all, but rather the thrill of the fight and imposing their will on others if they win. I also believe the masses that follow them like blind sheep and donate money have no clue what is REALLY going on. Getting folks to donate money to "save the enviornment" is wrong when the real agenda is to keep people out of the "enviornment". A note to the enviros .. I live here too and I think I'm more important than a bug

Solution to Sierra Club

Years ago (long before Rush's idea) I thought the best way to defeat the Sierra Club was for all off roaders to join and then run it our way. ;)

RE: Cell phone use restrictions

I'd RATHER they concentrate on the driving BEHAVIOR than the perceived CAUSE of the behavior. Some people seem to drive just fine while talking on the phone and lots of others can't maintain their own driving lane even when NOT on the phone. If the driving is erratic get em off of the road rather than a specific ban on cell phones when the driving behavior may not be suffering at all. I'm amazed at the number of times I follow someone driving right down the middle of two traffic lanes and when I finally pass them find no reason for it at all except they can't drive. skipnchar "GET" it! We have more than enough laws on the books already. Use the ones we have already and everything will be fine.

RE: Disappointed about my local dealer

Well you are wrong and you don't know what you are talking about. I am glad you say you are outta there, because I used to get tired of escorting people off of the property. I knew it! You used to be a mall cop right? I remember you. You're the troll from the beach closure thread.

RE: Disappointed about my local dealer

To the philosophy that the customer is always right, that is something that is taught in the classroom, by people who have NO idea of what they are talking about. I'll tell you what I do know .. any business that shares your attitude does not get my $$. If a business tells me I'm wrong and I don't know what I'm talking about I'm outta there in a heartbeat. I research in one way or another almost every product I buy and generally know more about it than the salesman does. I recently bought a TH and was dealing with a salesman with an attitude like yours .. you think I bought it from him? HECK NO!!! A dealer that would not do my warranty work would lose ALL of my business.

RE: tank valve lubricant

AAAAARGH - WD????? People in the busines say that stuff is only oil of fishies suspended in a very light lubricant. No one I know has ever found specs on its viscosity or temperature performance. (maybe they looked in the wrong places?? - doubt it). WD stands for water displacement - it does good on wet distributors. Fortunately for me AND 200,000 others, my distributor rarely gets wet. Does yours? If you must spray, use Ace hdwr LUBEE or silicone. If at all possible, lubricate the shaft with white assembly lube (Sta-lube) and your problems should go away. Joe If you can't fix it with WD 40 or duct tape it ain't worth havin' :B

RE: Locking bathrooms or non-locking?

The only park I have stayed in (I'm a boondocker) wanted $15 for a "bathroom key deposit". I'd rather use the bathroom in my TH. It's always much cleaner than a public restroom ;)

RE: It's time to fight back!

This is why some people shop at the flea market and others go the mall. Some people won't buy anything unless they feel they are getting some kind of a deal or special treatment. (read... "they are somehow superior to the next guy") (Of course these same people cringe when they have to buy groceries and gasoline and have to pay full-retail) LOL. You're right, I won't buy anything unless I feel I'm getting a deal. There's an old saying "take care of your pennies and your dollars will take care of themselves". If you want to pay full bore (read ...I don't know how to negotiate or shop for a deal), then you go right ahead. I don't feel "superior to the next guy" when I get a deal, I feel happy for my wallet. Btw, I don't pay full retail for groceries either .. I shop at warehouse stores. I'm surprised you haven't heard about them. Full retail for gas? Yeah, you got me there. :)

RE: It's time to fight back!

I'm new to RVing and for the last year I've been dry camping at Oceano Dunes .. where else can you get an ocean front room with a view for $10? Recently a group of us basketball parents took our RVs to an out of town tournament and stayed at an RV park. The rate was $35 a night (off season rate). I found a "stay one night get one free" coupon online. You should have heard the manager whine when we all used them. We didn't make the offer, we just accepted it for crying outloud. Then we had to deal with all the rules, "bathroom key deposits", parking restrictions, blah blah. I'm with some of the others .. $35 a night is too much money just to park and sleep. Besides that I think RV parks suck. Give me dry camping/boondocking or whatever you call it any day.

RE: Gas or electric Golf Cart

I'd say it depends on what you plan to do. If you just want to cruise around an RV park electric might be your best bet. If you think you may be doing some off roading or working around your property then get a gas rig for sure, something like a Polaris Ranger or Yamaha Rhino. I've seen golf carts off road and they are just this side of useless. I can just see it now .. all the old folks trading in their TT for TH :E

RE: compare onan and genrac generators

I have a Generac 5000. It came with the TH when I bought it. The choke butterfly was sticking and made it hard to start but I fixed that myself. When I got it there was 58 hours on it. Now there is 78. So far I've had no problems, it is easy to service, but it is a bit louder than I'd like. IMO Onan is probably the better of the two and according to my BIL that sells and services them Onan is much better than Generac. If I was going to put a generator in something that didn't already have one I'd get a Honda 3000 with a remote start. I have seen some near new Onans on craigslist dirt cheap though.

RE: Beeping car locks

Wow! Lots of comments on theis topic. Mine beeps on the second push of the remote. I only use that if I'm a distance from my truck and can't remember if I locked it or not ( CRS syndrome ) As for those that say they need it to confirm it's locked after they push the button I say "why?" I can hear my power locks activate and would much rather hear that than the annoying "BEEP" Suprisingly what no one has mentioned are the people that arm their alarm and then open the door when they return setting off the alarm. I feel like screaming "you idiot! did you forget you had an alarm?" When camping my truck usually stays unlocked until I go to bed.
